STD/STI test sexual exposure ke baad, symptoms hone par, ya partner ko STI diagnose hone par karwana important ho sakta hai. Sirf symptoms ka wait karna zaroori nahi hai, kyunki kai STIs mein symptoms bilkul nahi hote. Kaunsa test karna hai aur kab karna hai, ye exposure aur suspected infection par depend karta hai.
Agar exposure recent hua hai, to bahut jaldi test karwane par kuch infections detect nahi ho sakte kyunki har test ka apna window period hota hai. Example ke liye, HIV ke liye laboratory-based antigen/antibody test generally exposure ke 18–45 days ke beech detect kar sakta hai, jabki kuch other HIV tests ko longer window period lag sakta hai. Negative result agar window period ke andar liya gaya ho, to doctor repeat testing advise kar sakte hain.
Agar recent unprotected sex, condom breakage, new/multiple partner, genital discharge, sores, burning urination, rash ya kisi partner ke STI-positive hone ka concern hai, to delay na karein aur healthcare professional se consult karein. Agar possible HIV exposure 72 hours ke andar hua hai, to PEP ke baare mein urgently medical advice lena important hai, kyunki PEP ko 72 hours ke andar start karna hota hai.
STI testing confidentially karwayi ja sakti hai, aur aapki situation ke according blood, urine ya swab tests recommend kiye ja sakte hain.
